Azuki was first announced on January 12, 2022, and is an Ethereum-based profile picture project. This application was developed by four Los Angeles-based individuals who call themselves Chiru Labs. There are 10,000 anime-style PFP, each with their own unique characteristics and visual style.

Chiru Labs, a startup in Los Angeles run by four pseudonymous founders called ZAGABOND, 2pm.flow, location tba, and HoshiBoy launched 8,700 Azuki NFTs on January 12th, 2022.
These anime-style characters were referred to as Azukis and were listed for an initial purchase price of 3,400 USD.
Those 8,700 NFTs were all sold out in an unprecedented and maybe even historic event; it didn't take days, weeks, or even hours. The first batch of 8,700 Azuki NFTs sold out in four minutes.
A few days after the collection was revealed, the Azuki NFTs in the collection raised $2million in a private sale. On February 15, four weeks after Azukis broke the record, CryptoPunks and Bored Apes were overtaken by the Azuki with an overall sales volume of $300 million.
Despite CryptoPunks and BAYC having lifetime trading volumes of an astronomical 1 billion USD and ranking as the top two cryptocurrency exchanges all-time, Azukis made quite a splash, notching $300 million in just 30 days.
According to reports, the Azukis describe themselves as "the skaters of the internet" and are planning to develop Azuki into an animated series, launch games, and produce exclusive merchandise.
On March 30, Azuki #9605 was sold for 420.7 ETH ($1.4 million) on OpenSea. Azuki NFT collection has achieved its highest price ever recorded. The Azuki #9605, deemed the second-rarest in the collection, was auctioned on the NFT exchange OpenSea on the day for a record-breaking 420.7 ETH ($1.4 million).
