Bitcoin has experienced a sharp 30% correction from its all-time high of $126,200, bringing the price to hover just above the key $85,000 support level as of mid-December 2025. This drawdown has sparked concerns about a potential further drop toward $70,000 or lower, amid intensified retail selling and broader market pressures.

Despite the downturn, on-chain metrics highlight resilient buying from mid-tier holders. According to Glassnode, "sharks"—wallets holding 100 to 1,000 BTC—accumulated 54,000 BTC in a single recent week, boosting their total holdings from 3.521 million to 3.575 million BTC. This marks the fastest weekly accumulation rate for this cohort since 2012, reflecting strong confidence from high-net-worth individuals and smaller institutions even as panic selling dominates headlines.

Historical patterns bolster the bullish case. Similar shark surges in 2012 preceded Bitcoin's explosive 900% rally from $10 to over $100 within a year, while 2011 accumulation supported a 350% gain from under $3 to above $14. If this fractal repeats, current levels could lay the groundwork for significant upside in the ongoing cycle.

Yet, bearish forces provide a stark counterpoint. Large whales (over 10,000 BTC) have driven selling over recent months, overwhelming shark demand and contributing to the price slide. Veteran analyst Peter Brandt has flagged a breakdown below Bitcoin's long-term parabolic curve—a pattern that historically led to roughly 80% declines, potentially targeting $25,000 if it fully unfolds. With whale distribution ongoing and technical indicators flashing warnings, the road to recovery appears highly contested, balancing aggressive accumulation against persistent downward momentum.
