ETH continues to capture investor attention as market dynamics grow increasingly complex. On Friday, ETH futures open interest reached a record $70 billion, underscoring heightened speculative activity. While this reflects rising investor participation, such extremes often act as red flags, as overleveraged positions can trigger swift deleveraging cascades. Historically, these shakeouts have reset the market by forcing excessive longs out before the next sustainable upward push develops. This backdrop sets the stage for both opportunity and caution in the short term.

Despite these risks, ETH has shown notable resilience. On Monday, ETH rallied nearly 5%, outperforming Bitcoin’s modest 1% recovery and shaking off the familiar “Monday Trap,” where leveraged traders are typically forced to liquidate. The ability to weather these early-week liquidations highlights ETH’s relative strength, yet analysts agree that the key to a meaningful trend reversal lies at $4,700. Only by flipping this level into solid support can ETH confirm a sustained breakout toward higher levels.

Market data reinforces the bullish side of the argument. When combined with strong institutional flows, the narrative leans positive. Still, with leverage at extreme levels, short-term volatility remains a real risk, making this an inflection point for traders and investors alike.

Technically, ETH climbed to $4,579 on Tuesday after retesting critical support around $4,350 and absorbing liquidity from a key daily order block. Lower-timeframe momentum appears constructive, but mid-term charts tell a more cautious story. ETH is currently filling a bearish fair value gap between $4,600 and $4,450, leaving the possibility of further downside extension toward $4,000 if selling pressure persists. This creates a precarious balance between near-term strength and mid-term vulnerability.

For bulls to regain full control, ETH needs to reclaim equal lows near $4,662 and secure a convincing daily close above $4,700. Such confirmation would align both lower and higher timeframes, restoring bullish momentum and potentially opening the door to $5,000. Conversely, extended consolidation below $4,700 would suggest the rally is fueled largely by short covering, with sellers waiting to re-enter at higher levels. Until proven otherwise, $4,700 stands as the decisive pivot separating correction from continuation.
