BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) experienced a major surge in inflows on May 21, drawing in $530.6 million—the largest single-day net inflow in over two weeks and nearly matching the $531.2 million brought in on May 5, according to Farside Investors. Since April 9, IBIT has not recorded a single outflow, reflecting strong and consistent demand from investors amid Bitcoin’s ongoing price rally. The fund’s performance highlights a growing appetite for spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as the digital asset continues to soar.

In an extraordinary development, IBIT added 4,931 BTC to its holdings in just one day, a figure more than ten times greater than the 450 BTC mined during that same period. This stark disparity between new supply and ETF accumulation illustrates the increasing institutional demand for Bitcoin. May 21 also marked IBIT’s busiest trading day since January, reinforcing its growing relevance in the ETF market. Nate Geraci, president of ETF Store, commented that the high trading volume signals the potential for further large-scale inflows.

Total inflows across all 11 U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs reached $607.1 million that day. Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) ranked second with $23.5 million in net inflows. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas described the wave of buying as a “classic feeding frenzy,” fueled by Bitcoin’s price surge, which approached $112,000 in early May 22 trading. He likened the scenario to the rush observed during January’s price peak.

Balchunas noted that most Bitcoin ETFs are now experiencing double their typical flow levels, signaling renewed bullish sentiment. On May 21, Bitcoin broke through $110,000 and nearly hit $111,897 the following day, per TradingView data.

HashKey Capital partner Jupiter Zheng emphasized that Bitcoin has entered "uncharted discovery territory." He cautioned that while volatility may rise due to global uncertainty, Bitcoin’s long-term value proposition remains increasingly compelling.
